In 2016, in support of updating and modernizing our schools and facilities in order to maintain high-quality education and support student achievement in Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD), our community voted to approve Bond Measure Q guaranteeing $160 million in critical funding to support the facilities’ needs of our schools. As we’ve reached the beginning of the end of the HBCSD Measure Q Bond campus modernization projects, we reflect on how our schools and classrooms have transformed into leading-edge spaces for educators and students to integrate technology efficiently, foster digital citizenship, support innovation, and comprehensive instruction.

Before we are able to effectively teach students how to purposefully and responsibly use technology, we must first build up the capacity of our own team. The Educational Services and Information Technology departments, in collaboration with our Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) Mrs. Michelle Brady, offer opportunities for teachers and students to receive individualized, grade-level support on technology integration into the curriculum. These supports and resources play a vital role in our students becoming digitally responsible, confident technology users.

With multiple technology web-based services, programs, and applications available, teachers have the ability to learn about technology to help them better collaborate with students and provide deeper and more engaged learning. Some of the success testimonials that were shared from across HBCSD include:

  • Students engage in creative ways with applications such as MimioMobile, Book Creator, and Seesaw that amplify student voices and build their confidence.
  • Google Drive Applications are a productivity suite of tools from word processing, spreadsheets, and slideshows to creating online surveys and assessments. There are endless opportunities for any user.
  • Canvas aims to simplify the creation, distribution, and grading of assignments in a paperless way. It also streamlines the process of sharing files between teachers and students and allows for collaboration in real time.
  • Incorporating web-based programs and applications to the visual and performing arts including artwork design, music production, and more!

We are proud of the education HBCSD provides and are grateful to our community for all its support. On behalf of our students, staff, and parents, we send a heartfelt thank you to our taxpayers for making a difference in the education of our students.
