Parenting OC Magazine Top Employee & Teacher Finalists

Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) and the Parenting OC Magazine are pleased to announce the selection of Dwyer Middle School’s registrar Jackie Hayes as Top Employee of the Year finalist, as well as Sowers Middle School teacher Ryan Tan and Moffett Elementary teacher Marissa Carlton as Top Teacher of the Year finalists for the Top OC School Hero Awards Program.

The Parenting OC Magazine Top Employee awards program acknowledges and celebrates employees that consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, innovate and dare to make change at their schools, and inspire students and staff members to reach their full potential. Employees and teachers are nominated for this prestigious honor by their peers and/or school community members.

Jackie Hayes

Jackie Hayes, Dwyer Middle School

Ms. Hayes takes great pride in her role as registrar, she is a happy and positive representative of the school when assisting students, parents, colleagues and the general public. In addition to her focus on the students and families, she also does a wonderful job of supporting the office staff and school leadership. She knows the HBCSD school community well and is able to connect with them to provide helpful resources and guidance. Along with her exceptional work ethic and dedication to the school community is Ms. Hayes’s initiative to take on new projects and leadership roles, as well as volunteering at school events.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ryan Tan

Ryan Tan, Sowers Middle School

Mr. Tan's passion for teaching the arts knows no bounds–his organization, dedication and meticulous planning allow him to orchestrate musical and theatrical productions for Sowers as well as supporting our elementary schools. As Sowers's music teacher and Associated Student Body (ASB) advisor, Mr. Tan is known for making all students feel welcome by offering various opportunities in art productions. His collaborative spirit empowers him to leverage a strong network of learning for his students. He fosters an environment where all Sowers students are held to a high standard. Mr. Tan’s leadership qualities are always being taught through example, opportunities and encouragement. His enthusiasm for helping students find confidence in their education and talents is evident in all he does.

 

 

 

 

 

Marissa Carlton

Marissa Carlton, Moffett Elementary School

Mrs. Carlton is esteemed by her peers and loved by her students. When asked to speak about Mrs. Carlton, her students smile, their eyes light up and they happily share what a wonderful teacher they have. Mrs. Carlton is known for being collaborative and passionate about sharing knowledge and expertise for building capacity in her colleagues. Mrs. Carlton has excellent content knowledge as well as the gift of teaching students how to learn difficult concepts through fun and creative lessons, all while placing an emphasis on a growth mindset. Her positive attitude, understanding of the “big picture” on campus, and willingness to “do what it takes” make her a valuable asset to Moffett and to our district. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

HBCSD congratulates Jackie Hayes, Ryan Tan and Marissa Carlton for their recognition and for positively impacting the lives of students, families and colleagues. A special virtual awards event will be held in February to honor finalists and winners. We are exceptionally proud of all of you!
